Abstract

Volcanoes pose a threat to almost half a billion people; today there are approximately 500 active volcanoes on earth and every year there are 10 to 40 volcanic eruptions . In fact,Volcanic eruptions produce hazardous effect for the environment , climate and the health of the exposed person, and are associated with deterioration of social and economic conditions .their unfavourable effects depend on the distance from a volcano , on magma viscosity and on gas concentrations . The hazards closer to the volcano include pyroclastic flows , flows of muds, gases and streams , earthquakes , blast of air with ashes.

INTRODUCTION

Volcanic ash consist of fragments of rock, volcanic glass and minerals , created during volcanic eruptions . The term volcanic ash is also often loosely used to refer to all explosive eruptions products , including particles. Volcanic ash is formed during explosive volcanic eruptions when dissolved gasses in magma expand and escaped violently into the atmosphere. Once in the air , ash is transported by wind up to thousands of kilometers.

PROCEDURES

-Always stay indoors
-Stay in the evacuation center until farther intructions . Do not             attempt to leave the place unless told to do.
-Keep a watchful eye on the ground to avoid eye infection cause by the volcanic ash.
-Listen to the radio.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION

Based on the information that we've get,the Impacts of volcanic ash can be very detrimental to human health , due to the harmful aerosols and poisonous gases the ash is made up of. Health effects include respiratory problems , eye problems , and skin irritiation.

1.    Respiratory symptoms (short term)
      -runny nose
      -sore throath/coughing
      -wheezing/shortness of breath
      -possible bronchitis
     2. Eye symptoms (short term)
      -may become itchy or bloodshot
      -corneal abrasions or scratches
      -tearings

Fortunately , there are many ways to avoid and protect yourself against the dangers of volcanic ash . Precautions for the general public as published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are outline below:
-wear protective clothing , googles, and dust mask.
        -seal buildings
-those with pre-existing respiratory conditions should stay inside or    evacuate.

 CONCLUSION

Plants are destroyed over a wide area, during an eruption . The good thing is that volcanic soil is very rich, so once everything cools off, plants can make a big comeback!
Livestock and other mammals have been killed by lava flows, pyroclastic flows, tephra falls, atmospheric effects, gases, and tsunami. They can also die from famine, forest fires, and earthquakes caused by or related to eruptions.
Eruptions can influence bird migration, roosting, flying ability, and feeding activity.
The impact of eruptions on insects depends on the size of the eruption and the stage of growth of the insect. For example, ash can be very abrasive to wings.
